Woodlands Waterway Art Festival

The Woodlands Waterway Art Festival is this weekend. 200 artists from all over the United States and several countries are selling their original creations in clay, drawing, fiber, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2D, mixed media 3D, painting, pastel, photography, sculpture, textile, watercolor and wood in this juried fine art festival; a student art area featuring works of local high school students; entertainment on two stages, an Artopoly Kids Zone, artist demonstrations and the Palette Café. Tickets are 10 dollars for adults and free for children under 12. Parking is also free and signs will be located in each lot to help you find your way around. The festival is open on Saturday, April 12 from 10-8 and Sunday April 13 from 10-6.

The festival will officially kick of on Saturday with the Floating Art Parade at 10:30. Floats for the parade will be launched from the boat ramp near Town Green Park at 10:30 a.m. They will be guided east on the Waterway to the bridge at Six Pines Drive where they will turn around and head west back to Town Green Park. The floats will remain moored there throughout the festival. Spectators can view the parade along the Waterway between Town Green Park and Six Pines Drive.

    It’s interesting how The Woodlands is developing as a city. When I was younger, it was a day trip to go to Old Town Spring, which seemed a huge distance away. The Woodlands is actually about 15 miles further than that, and yet they’re continuing to draw people from all around the area with events like these.

    I just got back about an hour ago from out there and I think overall they did a better job than the Bayou City Art Festival. The area around the mall and the interstate is really taking off.
