Art fence foiled

by Allen ~ July 8th, 2008. Filed under: Houston, Theft.

The Houston Chronicle this morning reports two men were stopped in their attempt to sell a stolen Andrew Wyeth painting.  Ray Simposon of Simpson Galleries in Galveston was offered the stolen painting and convinced the thieves to leave the painting in his vault for evaluation.  He contacted the stolen art register and then the police who apprehended the gentleman later at the gallery.  No charges have been filed and police are still unsure who the original thieves of the artwork are.
